Jude Callirgos Obituary

Callirgos, Jude A.
Sunday, May 18th was Jude's last day with us. At the time her West Redding home was, as always, filled with family and friends. Through extraordinary talent and optimistic determination, Jude achieved acclaim as a singer and actor, and co-founded a theater company in Danbury. She found success as a human resources executive for multi-national corporations, and authored an extremely well received book chronicling both victories and defeats as she engaged breast cancer head on, entitled "Breast Left Unsaid". A true Renaissance woman, Jude's philosophy on life encompassed everything from the fearless self- awareness & unflinching honesty of her book, to a sign in her home which reads "What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
Jude is survived by her mother Sylvia Callirgos; siblings Jayne McMurdy, Jodi Lussier, & Victor Callirgos and their families; numerous cousins, including Julia Brootkowski; many dear friends including Kim Howard; her beloved dog Sophie; her daughter Julia Robinson; and the love of her life, her husband Philip Robinson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ann's Place, 80 Saw Mill Road, Danbury, CT 06810 www.annsplace.org. Jude's life will be celebrated at a future date.

Philip

I feel like I know you and Jude through your beautiful sister Dottie. Dottie is a customer of ours but and a very dear friend. She held my hand and my heart through the loss of my husband in January and I know she is doing the same for you. Words cannot tell you how sorry I am for your great loss. I know that Jude and my husband Steve is looking down on us and making sure we are both okay.

Love and prayers as you celebrate her life this weekend!

So sorry to hear the news about Jude. I was a Recruiter that she used at various times but we developed a great relationship. Her tweets were an inspiration and I know her strength and journey touched a lot of people. I hope the memories you have will be a comfort to you during this difficult time.

Dear Callirgos and Robinson families,

I worked with Jude back in her priceline.com days. She actually interviewed and hired me to work on her team as a recruiter. I remember walking away from the interview thinking to myself about what a wonderful person I had just met. Getting the job seemed almost secondary, I so enjoyed our meeting. I did get the job, and as I came to know Jude for the intelligent, witty, insightful and joyous person she was, I only grew to like and respect her more. Here was an HR executive that didn't act like an executive, and that was a good thing! I owe much of my own career's trajectory and success to the lessons I learned just by watching Jude: be yourself, don't be a wonk, sing and hum at work, question the status quo, and don't be afraid to call something stupid if indeed it is stupid! Jude and I lost touch these last few years, but the impression she has made on my heart and soul is one that has never left me. Jude's story on this earth is not over: it goes on in everyone she touched in so many positive ways. Phil and family, please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Phil, Julia, and all of Jude's family: I am heartbroken for you all at such a tremendous loss. Jude was such a wonderful person: quite brilliant, funny, engaging, welcoming, gorgeous, charismatic, and so wonderful. Her smile lit up a room. She was amazingly courageous through her long fight(s) with her illness and gave so much to so many with her book and her speaking. I will miss her so much. My prayers go out to you.

I worked with Jude at Hyperion, but it was never really work. She brought laughter, song, and a lightness that I will never forget. Her beauty, intelligence, and humor filled a room. I remember singing "Hello Mudah, Hello Fadah" with her in Times Square, feeling it was the most natural thing in the world to be doing. I was stopped in my tracks when I heard of her passing. To her family and closest friends, I share your loss.

To the Callirgos Family - I was honored to be in one of the first productions of DART (Danbury Actors Repertory Theater), the theater company Jude co-founded. She was a remarkable, intelligent, passionate, and funny woman - and a truly superb actress and singer - who gave her all to us. I was fortuntate enough to see her in many performances. I will never forget one of them in particular. She was playing in Camelot at Richter - and it started raining during the performance, which meant it had to stop until the rains passed. Jude, still in character, turned to us in the audience in the most graceful and beautiful way, her hands lightly folded, as the rain came down, a look of both disappointment and empathy in her eyes. When the rain stopped, she went right on, pitch perfect and superb, as always. I will simply never forget it. Or her. And her incredible spirit, love, and talent. And I'm so grateful to have been a small part of her remarkable journey. Love and prayers to her entire family and devoted friends.
