Michael Thomas Niland

1942 - 2016

CUMBERLAND - Michael Thomas Niland, 73, of Cumberland and formerly of Piedmont, WV, passed away on September 1, 2016 at Western Maryland Reginal Medical Center.
Born September 26, 1942 at Franklin, he was the son of the late Edmond Joseph Niland Sr. and Mary Louise (Ryan) Niland.
Mike was a 1961 graduate of St. Peter's School, Westernport. He was once employed at the post office until he entered into the United States Air Force in 1964. He was discharged from the USAF in 1967. Mike retired from Westvaco in 2007.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 46 years, whom he married on December 5th, 1969, Rebecca (Hanna) Niland. He is also survived by a daughter Lynette Lee Niland and Liam Kearney and their children Isla Victoria Kearney and Liam Kearney; and a son Ryan Michael Niland and wife Melanie and their son, Cameron Michael Niland. Mike is also survived by his siblings, Joe Niland and wife Nancy, Richard Niland, Jim Niland and wife Reba, Barbara Shank and husband Joe; a brother-in-law, James Hanna and wife Kathy, a sister-in-law, Melanie Martin and husband Jim and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, September 4th, 2016 from 12 pm to 2 pm.
A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm, with the Rev. Thomas Forbes officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial continuations may be directed to a church or charity of your choice.
