STAUNTON

Edward Paige Kier Sr., 86, of Yount Street, departed this life on Friday, October 8, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on December 2, 1923, to the late Luther and Irene (Martin) Kier.

Edward retired from the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of Augusta Street United Methodist Church.

He served in the United States Army in World War II and in the South Pacific and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Edward was a devoted and lifetime member of the Thomas-Fields Post #7814 and a lifetime member of the NAACP.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandson.

Edward is survived by his wife, Ophelia (Williams) Kier of the residence; three sons, Edward Jr. and Freida, and Ophie and Jackie Kier of Staunton, Virginia, Joseph Kier and Angela of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one daughter, Mary Smith and Stephen of Staunton, Virginia; one sister, Margaret Mosby of Staunton, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

A funeral sservice will be conduct 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Augusta Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oaklawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens.

Public viewing will be from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2010, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
