James Hugh Cross OXFORD, MS

James Hugh Cross, 83, formerly of West Augusta, died on Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi.

He was born on February 12, 1928, at West Augusta and nicknamed "Corky" after a baby recently born in the comic strip "Gasoline Alley." Jim was the youngest child and only son of Edward Marcey and Anna Mae Beathe Cross.

Jim retired from GE/ Genicom in Waynesboro after 30 years of employment.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Hans Cross; his sisters, Havana Perkins "Billie" Cross, Virginia Maxine Cross Malcolm, and Florence Helen Cross Creasy; and his nephew, Walter Edward "Chipper" Ralston.

Surviving are his daughters, Christina Cross Davis of Oxford, Mississippi, and Elisabeth Cross Peterson of Richmond; four grandchildren, James Andrew Smith, Robert Austin Smith, Steven Abraham Smith, and Emilie Christiane Davis; two step-grandchildren, Amy Peterson Moody and Samuel Cobb Peterson; and his nephews and nieces, James Randolph Malcolm, Janice Malcolm Higgins, Robert Russell Malcolm, and Debra Mae Malcolm.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the West Augusta United Methodist Church with burial at West Augusta Cemetery.
