SWOOPE – Gwin Edward "Joe" Mawyer, 66, beloved husband of Terry, passed away November 12, 2025 in Shenandoah House.
Joe was born in Staunton on May 16, 1959 and was a son of the late Charles Edward and Doris Jean (Buchanan) Mawyer.
He was employed by Commonwealth Excavating prior to retirement. Joe was a skilled mechanic; he had incredible intuition and the ability to resolve any challenge in small engine and auto repairs. He also loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed 4-wheeling.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Trenton and Mildred Casiday; a brother, Dean Mawyer; and a granddaughter, Chloe Grace Vint.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Terry Casiday Mawyer; a daughter, Natasha Vint Harris (husband Gary) of Churchville; sister Carolyn Wood (husband Vince) of Staunton; brothers Wayne Mawyer of Verona, Ralph Mawyer (wife Pam) of Craigsville, and Randy Mawyer (wife Teresa) of Staunton; grandchildren William Alexander Vint and Bently Cade Vint; brothers-in-law Bruce Casiday (Sharon Marshall) and Phillip Casiday; sisters-in-law Connie Wade and Brenda Warner (husband Doug); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Per Joe's request, there will be no public services.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care and support given by Shenandoah House staff Robin, Teresa and Briana.
Memorials may be directed to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, c/o Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
