Naomi Terry Stroop

Naomi Terry Stroop, 92, of Roanoke, formerly of Weyers Cave, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008.

A native of Rockingham County, she was preceded in death by her parents, John I. and Mollie B. Terry; brothers, Lester, Chester, Sam, William, Elmer and Jake Terry; and sisters, Lucy Coakley and Beulah Coiner.

A member of Northview United Methodist Church, she was a former member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Burketown, Virginia.

Mrs. Stroop worked for Roanoke County Schools in food service for many years and at Friendship Manor as a healthcare aide.

Surviving are her children, Roy Lee Stroop of Verona, Virginia, Brenda Stroop Dogan and her husband, Gary and Charles F. Stroop all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kevin L. Stroop, Heather K. Dogan, and Brian E. Dogan and his wife, Melanie; two great- grandchildren, Aiden Dogan and Caleb Dogan; step grandchildren, Sharon Kiser, Laura Morer and Ellis Fravel; three step great-grand-children, Jacquelin Surato, Elizabeth Surato and Brandon Kiser; brother, Lawrence "Bud" Terry of Weyers Cave; sisters, Frances Knicely of Mt. Sidney and Arvetta Waybright of Weyers Cave; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, Dr. Eric Spano and the Reverend Randy Simmons will officiate. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2008, and Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Burketown, Virginia.

Directions to Oakey's North Chapel, I-81 south to exit 146, left on Plantation Road, right on Williamson Road, right on Peters Creek Road to 6732 Peters Creek Road.

I remember the first time I met ‘Grandma’; I was visiting Heather from Radford. I must say, I was a little scared at first, Grandma had some spunk! A fine lady though, real sweet and caring. She will be missed.
