Rayburn S. "Chip" Johnson Jr. STAUNTON

Rayburn "Chip" Johnson, 76, formerly of Florence Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at King's Daughter's Community Health and Rehab in Staunton, Virginia.

He was born in Augusta County, Virginia, on November 8, 1934, a son of the late Rayburn Sr. and Willie (Lewis) Johnson.

He retired from the City of Harrisonburg with 30 years of service and also worked at Camp Strawderman in Woodstock, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Desmond L. Johnson Sr.

Rayburn is survived by one sister, Mary V. Johnson of Staunton, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Harriet W. Johnson of Waynesboro, Virginia; two special devoted nieces, M. Gwendolyn Johnson of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Judy A. Vest of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; a special nephew, Desmond "D.J." Johnson Jr. of Waynesboro, Virginia; one great-niece, Destiny L. Johnson of Waynesboro, Virginia; one great-nephew, Adrian D. Garland of Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas; a special friend, Donald Long of Staunton, Virginia; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Greenville Cemetery.

Public viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the funeral home.

Friends are being received anytime at Ms. M. Gwendolyn Johnson, 708 Florence Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia.
