Robert J. Brown

Robert Joseph Brown, 76, of Waynesboro, died on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born on March 14, 1934, in Norfolk, the son of Clarence Taft Brown and Elsie Mae Brown Dean.

He was an active member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church and had retired from DuPont with 34 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who gave his life to the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy J. Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Shelby W. Brown of Waynesboro; his daughter, Dana Lin Broadway and her husband, Scott, of Richmond; his stepson, Paul "Chip" Bell of Waynesboro; a sister, Alice Brown Shevitz and her husband, Harold, of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Meghan Sevier, Emily Bell, and Blake Campbell; a great-granddaughter, Mia Sevier; and two nieces, Sherril Stinnett and Beth Eriksson.

A service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2010, at Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church by Pastor Paul F. LaPrevotte. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Roger Basham, Chip Bell, Scott Broadway, Harry Brown, Blake Campbell, and Harold Shevitz.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482, or the Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church Real Estate Fund, 901 Shenandoah Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
