Wilbur L. Johnson

Wilbur L. Johnson, 81, of Waynesboro, departed this life on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on August 2, 1929, in Augusta County, a son of the late Vance and Catherine (Parrish) Johnson.

He attended Augusta County Public Schools and was a member of Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Vaughn) Johnson; two brothers, Clarence and Julius Johnson; and one sister, Shirley Hoge.

He is survived by three sons, Gerald and his wife, Queenie, W. Lee and his wife, Ruth, of Staunton and Miles of Tacoma, Washington; three daughters, Vickie of Waynesboro, Gale of Webster City, Iowa and Zaneanna of Baltimore, Maryland; six brothers, James, Calvin, Carson, Douglas, Jett and Raymond; four sisters, Jean, Barbara, Anna and Constance; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Kinsasha Johnson; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Staunton Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 1000 North Coalter Street.

The family will receive friends at the following residences, 541 East Main Street, Waynesboro, and 1214 Spaulding Street, Staunton.

Lewis Funeral Hoe is in charge of the arrangements.
