Elva Clough Obituary

Elva Reynolds Clough, 82 DOVER - Elva Clough departed this life peacefully on Dec. 31, 2009, at Bay Health Medical Center in Dover with her daughter holding her hand. Elva was born Aug. 19, 1927, to the late Charles W. Sr. and Ida Williams Reynolds. She was a graduate of Dover High School. During her early years, she worked for Libby's and Playtex. She was the sole cafeteria staff for the Kenton Elementary School during the school year and during the summer months, she manned the concession stand for Kenton team of the Mar-Del Baseball League, where her husband was the team manager. In 1959, she and her husband became the owners of The Treble Clef, a well known Smyrna teen hangout and became the second mom to numerous teens in the area. She was also a bookkeeper for various family businesses. After the birth of her granddaughters, she retired to devote her time to them and their assorted activities. She was well known for her cooking and baking and was in the kitchen making holiday treats right up until her recent hospitalization. She was preceded in death not only by her parents, but her only son PFC Bruce E. Clough who was killed in active duty in Vietnam; her son-in-law, Gary Blevins; and her two brothers, Charles and Aaron Reynolds. She was survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank "Mickey" Clough of Dover; daughter, Barbara Blevins of Smyrna; granddaughters Jacquelyn Blevins of Smyrna, and Joanne Blevins Gannon of Easton, Md.; sisters, Ruth (and husband Travis) Strickland of Houston, Texas, and Margaret (and husband William) Cohee of Cheswold; family friend, Michael VanHorn of Easton; a brother-in-law, and several sister-in-laws including a very special sister-in-law, Marie Reynolds, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Sharon Hills Memorial Garden in Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Elva's name be made in Bruce's honor to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial of Delaware with at VVA Chapter 850 c/o Joseph Startt, 3878 Savannah Road Dover, DE 19901.
