Thomas Eugene Eldred

Thomas Eugene Eldred, 66 DOVER - Thomas Eugene Eldred passed away peacefully, Monday, April 5, 2010, in the Delaware Hospice Center of Milford. He was 66. Thomas was born Dec. 2, 1943, in New York City, N.Y., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Eldred. He was raised in New York City, living in the area for several years, before relocating to Pennsylvania and eventually to Delaware in 1996. Born to artists, he followed his creativity through photography and journalism. He began his journalism career in the 1960's working for the New York Times, later followed as a news reporter for The News-Herald in Franklin, Pa., until his move to Delaware in 1996 when he started working for the Delaware State News as a journalist, eventually becoming the Senior News Editor. His work was his passion. He was a member of the Colonial Tennis Club. His hobbies included photography, literature, tennis, traveling, and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Maki Eldred; a daughter, Jaime Rafferty and her husband Randy; grandchildren Sarah, Nicholas and Nathan Rafferty, all of Arthur, Ill.; sons, Caleb Eldred, and Colin Eldred of Smyrna; a stepson, Kevin Maki of Felton; a sister, Patricia Eldred; niece, Megan Roe; nephew, Benjamin Roe and his wife Jessica, all of Colorado; and close friends, David and Laura Benevy of Pennsylvania. Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center of Milford, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
