David Benchoff Obituary

CENTREVILLE/DENTON, Md. - David James Benchoff (Jimmy) of Centreville and Denton, MD, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his home. He was 64 years old. Mr. Benchoff was born in Newark, Md. on December 11, 1949. He was the son of the late Paul Sterling Benchoff and Mary Gladys Burkett Benchoff of Denton. Mr. Benchoff was a 1969 graduate of North Caroline High School in Denton. He was the owner and operator of East Coast Custom since 1974. He had worked for Chrysler in Newark, Del. until he retired in 1993. Mr. Benchoff is survived by his wife, Helen L. Benchoff of Centreville; four children, Nicole J. VanHekle (David) of Denton, Amanda Jean Benchoff of Denton, David James Benchoff II of Denton, and Devon J. Benchoff (Brandy) of Denton; one stepson, Tony Cecil of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one grandson, Gage J. Benchoff; and a step grandson, Blake Cecil; one sister, Diana Hughes of Felton; and four brothers, Steve Benchoff of Greensboro, Edward Benchoff of Denton, Bill Benchoff of Georgetown, and Michael Benchoff of Nome, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Benchoff. Jim loved NASCAR, the Orioles, and restoring old cars. His greatest love was his family. They meant the world to him. Jim was a gentle and kind person who was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand where needed. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2013 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton where friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 and one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
