Charles O'Day Obituary

GEORGETOWN - Charles Richard O'Day passed away on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 at home. Charles was born in Bridgeville, the son of the late Alfred A. and Sara Esther (Spicer) O'Day. He had worked on the Panama Canal in 1941 and was a riveter on the Indian River Inlet Bridge. He was self-employed farmer, house mover and a button shop owner. He also owned the Moon Walk Motel in Rehoboth and the Liberty Bell Market in Georgetown. He was a member of McColley's Chapel in Redden and was the oldest active member of the Redman Lodge in Delaware. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Sally O'Day in 2004; brothers, Elwood O'Day, Raymond O'Day and Alfred B. O'Day; sister, Elizabeth Esposito; and his companion, Ethel Murphy. He is survived by his nieces, Bonnie Smith of Bridgeville, Sandra Esposito of Wilmington and Faye Burket of Seaford; nephews, Robert Daisey of Georgetown, Lou Davis of Georgetown, Ronald O'Day of Lewes and Donald O'Day of Georgetown. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE, where friends may call after 10:00 am. Interment will be in Bridgeville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: McColley's Chapel, C/O Sally Griffith, 18317 McColley's Chapel Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
