Bryan Holey Obituary

TEMPERANCE, Mich. - Bryan Holey, son of Richard and Ellen Holey, passed away on Feb. 27, 2012, in Temperance, Mich. Bryan was born May 29, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in Lambertville, Mich. He was very active in Boy Scouts & the Order of the Arrow Senior Scouts. Bryan was selected to attend Boy's State in Lansing, Mich., in 1968. He graduated in 1969 from Bedford High School in Michigan. Bryan received an academic scholarship to the University of Michigan. He worked for General Tel. Co. (now Verizon) from 1971 and retired in 2010. Bryan loved being on the water. His family spent most their summers at their cottage on a lake in Irish Hills, Mich. He could often be found out on the lake in the family sailboat. As an adult Bryan enjoyed sailboat racing on Lake Erie. Bryan was known for his generosity. He showered his nieces and nephews with gifts at Christmas. His close friend while awaiting a kidney transplant needed a place to stay. Bryan opened his home to him, and helped organize a fund raiser to help with medical bills. Bryan's health had deteriorated since his retirement. Arthritis took several inches from his once tall stature. He suffered from congestive heart failure, diabetes, and COPD. Bryan will be missed by his family including: father, Richard Holey and special friend Patt Mason; brothers, Bruce (Jane) Holey of Clayton, Mich., and Brett (Susan) Holey of Greenwich, Conn.; sisters, Brenda Sumey of Oxford, Mich., and Sue Okopny (Dick) of Grosse Ille, Mich.; six nephews, two nieces, one grandnephew and one grandniece, as well as a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Bryan was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Holey. There will be a Bryan Holey Bedford High School Scholarship Fund established. The fund will be for the University of Michigan.

So sorry for your loss! I knew Bryan was ill, but this was still so unexpected. I guess I didn't realize the full extent of his illness. I pray the Lord will watch over his family, bless and protect them and get them through this this time of grieving. He was a good man. Jennifer Holey (Temperance, MI)
