Nancy Coughlin Obituary

COUGHLIN, NANCY M. Nancy M. Coughlin, 85, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Clinton on Friday, February 14th. She was born in New Haven on June 6, 1928 to the late Henry F. Gilmore and Margaret A. (Mahoney) Gilmore. She was predeceased just 9 short days ago by her beloved husband of 63 years, John J. Coughlin, Jr. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Gilmore, and her son-in-law, Tom Richards. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Peg) Fisher and her husband, Doug, of Northford, Paul Coughlin of Clinton, Patrick Coughlin and his wife Barbara of Northford, Maureen C. Richards of North Branford and Glenn Coughlin and his wife Kari of Poway, CA. She is also survived by seven loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was a longtime resident of West Haven and was a very active member of Our Lady of Victory Parish. She served as a CCD teacher there for many years and was also involved with the church’s Bible Study group. She was most recently a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton and served on several of their committees including the Peace and Justice committee and the Sunshine Club, as well as working with the many other church members who so generously volunteered in the area soup kitchens. Nancy was a former real estate agent working many years for the Janet Sachs real estate office in Killingworth and later for Beazley Real Estate until she retired. Nancy was an avid reader. She was frequently at the Clinton public library and had numerous friends there including those in their Book Club. She “cherished” her bridge group friends. Her gatherings with them over the years were the highlight of each week. She loved her dog, working in her garden and most importantly spending all the precious time she could enjoying the laughter and love of her family. A funeral mass will be held for both Nancy and her husband John on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 54 Grove Street, Clinton, CT. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20th from 4-7 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton, CT.
