MARTHA MAHONEY Obituary

MAHONEY, MARTHA M. Martha M. Mahoney, 85, of Cheshire, formerly of Milford, beloved wife of the late R. Russell Mahoney, passed away on April 25, 2016. She was born on February 15, 1931, in Burlington, VT to the late Joseph and Mary McNamara. Martha had unwavering optimism and belief in the goodness of others. She had Faith that all things would work out for the best and was happiest when surrounded by family. She worked as a music teacher and Department Head in the Milford Public School system for over 25 years and also ran the children’s choir at Christ the Redeemer Church for many years. She was a consultant for music textbooks and was a part of a professional recorder club. She also enjoyed traveling and her bridge club. Martha is survived by her children, Margaret (Mark Luckman) Mahoney of Brookline, MA, Sarah (Joseph) Mahoney Flynn of Windsor Locks, CT, Robert R. Mahoney of Kent, CT, Christopher J. (Elizabeth Crawford) Mahoney of Westport, CT and Terence E. Mahoney of Kent, CT; her grandchildren, Will Luckman, Kaitlin Evoy, Kerry Flynn, Christopher Mahoney, Jr., Nicholas Mahoney, Aedan Mahoney, Maggie Mahoney and Joseph Mahoney; her siblings, James J. McNamara of Burlington, VT and Nancy (Clif) Harris of Needham, MA. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph A. Mahoney; her daughter, Martha J. Heyniger; and her sister, Maureen McNamara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford, CT. Interment will be private. Friends and family may call on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT. To leave memorial contributions, donations can be made to Harford Health Care at Home, Hospice, 1 Northwestern Dr., Bloomfield, CT 06002. Martha and I have been close friends for 40 years and I am very saddened by her passing. She was the epitome of kindness, caring and concern. Her perpetual smile will be remembered by all for years to come. My sincerest sympathy to her entire family.
