MURRAY, ALVIN In New Haven, 3/2/2015, Attorney Alvin Murray of 25 Knollwood Drive, New Haven, devoted husband of Nancy Murray. He was born on October 6, 1920, in New Haven. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1938 and from Yale University, class of 1943 “With Orations”. During World War II he served on a destroyer in the Pacific from June 1943 until the end of hostilities and was released from active duty in April, 1946. During his tour of duty on the USS Shaw, DD373, where he served as gunnery officer, he participated in numerous engagements in the Pacific and was awarded the Pacific Theater ribbon with three bronze stars. After release from the navy, he attended Columbia Law School and received his Bachelor of Laws degree in June of 1948. He practiced law in New Haven until his retirement in 2002. He served two years as clerk of the Circuit Court, fifteen as an assistant prosecutor in the Superior Court and four years as assistant corporation counsel for the City of New Haven. He was admitted to practice at the United States District Court and the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Carla Murray of Nyack, New York, and his son, Mark Murray and wife Holly, and granddaughter Amanda, all of Cheshire, Connecticut. He is predeceased by his brother, Charles Murray, and son, Gene Murray. Funeral Services at the B’Nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Ave., New Haven, FRIDAY morning at 11:00 o’clock.
