I am very sad to hear of Ed's passing. He always had excellent advice for me in my dealings with Japan and with his wife Jane always had wonderful suggestions on how I could best spend my time there. Ed, you are remembered.

I was very sad to hear of Ed's death. We were the survivors, you might say, of a very long friendship, actually one between my parents, Richard and Dallas Finn, and Ed and Jane. It seemed like I had always known the Griffins and, like my parents, I so much appreciated their company, their lively sense of humor, their inspiring erudition and their love of Japan. For a long time, Ed and I were the only ones left. It was painful to see Ed grow old, but those years were a chance for me to continue to enjoy his wit and his warmth. Goodbye, Ed! XXXX
