Terence Wright Obituary

NEWTON -- Ted Wright, 46, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, after a brief illness. Though born with Down syndrome, he was a joy to every acquaintance and a great teacher of the value of unconditional love and unselfish caring.

The youngest of seven children born to Major John Ivan and Teresa Wright, he graduated Newton High School in 1985 and lived for 45 years with his mother, a kindergarten teacher in Newton for 38 years. He moved into the SCARC group home in Lafayette in 2009 and worked in the SCARC day programs.

Predeceased by his father, as well as his brothers, Keith and Timothy, Ted is survived by his mother, Teresa Wright of Newton; brothers, Kevin of River Edge and Patrick of Ridgewood; and sisters, Colleen of Newton and Pegeen of Belmont, Mass. He is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.

To all who knew him, Ted was a great caregiver. With a lightness of heart, a generous nature and kindly good humor, he brightened many hearts and made us forget our limitations.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. A service to celebrate Ted's life will be held 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Branchville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens (SCARC) in memory of Ted Wright (SCARC, 11 Route 206, Suite 100, Augusta, NJ 07822). Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.

Teddy was the very best friend my son Allan ever had. His smile could always light up a room.

Although we lost touch after Teddy moved to Florida and we eventually left Sussex County, Allan still talks about his best friend.

I am deeply saddened by his passing.
