Wilfred Scroggins Obituary

SCROGGINS

Wilfred "Gene", formerly of Williamstown, KY, went to be with the Lord from Rosedale Green in Covington, KY on Saturday, June 21, at the age of 88. He was the devoted husband of Leslie, the father of one son and the step-father of a daughter and three sons. Gene was born January 9, 1926, the son of Fred and Jessie (Roland) Scroggins. Afflicted by infantile paralysis (polio) at the age of two, he persevered by the grace of God to lead a productive and fruitful life. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington for 63 years and was also employed as an assembler at K-D Lamp Company in Cincinnati for 37 years. After retiring, he and Leslie moved to Holbrook, Ky (Grant County) in 1990 where they lived happily until moving to Rosedale Green in 2011. During those years, Gene and Leslie built many happy memories together with family and friends. Those memories added to the storehouse of lifelong memories Gene had experienced in Holbrook since childhood. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with which God blessed him bountifully. He was a man of genuine faith, deep convictions, and sincere compassion. Gene was preceded in death by Leslie, his loving wife and devoted partner, on April 5, 2012. Others who preceded him were his parents, twins who died at birth, Mary Frances, a sister who died in early childhood, his brother, Elbert, killed in action in WW2, and sister, Betty True, who died in 2001. Gene was also preceded in death by his step-daughter, Glenda Merkle and her husband, Frank, his step-sons, Richard, Garry and Ronald Close, and his brother-in-law, Fenton True. He is survived by his son, Mark (Nancy) Scroggins, their two children and six grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his brother, Fred Jr. (Nancy), and his sisters Martha and Dorothy (Howard) Goodrich. Other survivors include three step-daughters-in-law, Janice, Mary and Elfiea Close, nine step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family desires to express deep gratitude to the dedicated staff at Rosedale Green for the compassionate and professional care they provided for Gene during his residency of almost three years. Special thanks also to Janice Close for the loving care she provided for Gene at his home during the weeks before he entered Rosedale Green. Visitation will be on Friday, June 27, from Noon until 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3711 Tibbatts Street, Covington, KY. The funeral service will follow immediately with Pastor Mark Scroggins officiating. Gene's body will be laid to rest next to his wife, Leslie, at Williamstown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rosedale Green or Calvary Baptist Church

Uncle Gene, I will forever remember when I was small and Mark and I would run around your house. You would yell at me and then wink. Thanks for being you.
