Menette Lilly Obituary

Menette Cowen Lilly passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, surrounded by her devoted family. Born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, in 1920, she spent her 95 years on earth lovingly caring for her family and friends and remained alert and feisty to the end of her long life. A dedicated homemaker, Menette will be remembered for her festive holiday decorations and beautiful gardens. She was a proud member of the Red Hatters, the Magnolia Homemakers, the Ladies Guild of St. Andrew Apostle Church, and the St. Andrew Sages. She lived her happiest years married to the love of her life, her beloved Walter Carl Lilly, who passed away in 1981. She leaves to treasure her memory her cherished children, Walter "Buddy" Lilly (Linda), Ron Lilly (Nancy), and Shirleen Dugger (Jed). Menette had a special relationship with each of her seven amazing grandchildren: Wayne Lilly, Jennifer Lilly, Danielle Culberson, Michael Lilly, Jamie Dugger, Josh Lilly, and Ashley Dugger. She was also blessed with five beautiful great grandchildren: Hunter, Brock, Allison, Bella, and Sidney. Menette was preceded in death by her parents M.A. "Dunk" and Edna Cowen, and her brothers M.A. "Bubby" Cowen, Jr. and Stanley Cowen. Menette is now free from her earthly cares and is probably planting pansies and cooking up a big pot of gumbo in heaven for Walter, Dunk, Edna, Bubby, and Stanley. The family would like to thank the dedicated staffs of Heritage Manor, Slidell Guest House and St. Elizabeth Hospice for their loving care of Menette. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3105 Eton Street, New Orleans, LA 70131, on Monday, April 4, 2016, at 11:00 am. Visitation at the church from 9:00 am until funeral time. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ponchatoula at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church or to your favorite charity.
