Cecilia "Gladys" Dabrowski
1917-2010 ADAMS Cecilia Monica "Gladys" Dabrowski, 92, an Adams native, died at her home in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 2010, where she had been a resident for 70 years.
Born in Adams on Apr. 23, 1917, daughter of Walter and Balbina Krol Dabrowski, she attended local schools. Gladys departed from Adams as a young adult. She worked in fashionable New York restaurants and became well-known as a gracious and caring hostess. In her later years, Gladys was employed as a nanny.
Among her hobbies, Gladys was an avid reader, who also enjoyed traveling, gourmet cooking, entertaining family and friends, fashion, home decor, and her French poodles. She took a special interest in her nieces and nephews.
"Glad", beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and valued friend to all who knew her, was predeceased by her parents; brother, William and his wife, Stephanie, of Adams; and her four sisters, Sophie Dabrowski, Marion Feraulo, Diana Russ, and Rose Dabrowski. She was also predeceased by two cousins, Stephen Dabrowski and Walter Dabrowski, both of Adams.
She leaves two nieces, Dr. Irene Dabrowski of Staten Island, N.Y., and Cynthia Russ Smarjesse of Minneapolis, Minn.; four nephews, Edwin Dabrowski of Littlefield, Texas, Michael Russ of St. Paul, Minn., David Russ of Eagan, Minn., and Richard Feraulo of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Russ of St. Paul, Minn. In Adams, she leaves cousins, Phyllis Blazejewski, John Dabrowski, Celia Danecki, Helen Szufnarowski, and Janet Wilk.
