Laurence HARRINGTON Obituary

HARRINGTON
Laurence Frederick, 72, of Clifton, son of Joseph Harrington and Marie Sprick Harrington died on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 after a long difficult struggle with cancer.
Larry was born in Paterson on November 25, 1942 and attended local Paterson schools of St. George and Central High. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Arts from Seton Hall University. His work career included radio announcer, sales, training technician and audio visual specialist for the United States Postal Service as well as independent video producer.
He was a very creative individual and received a national award for the best feature article in a government publication, as well as an Apostolic Blessing from the Vatican for his video of "The Sacred Heart Story". This video chronicled the history of Sacred Heart Parish in Clifton.
He also created "Memories of Bud and Lou", a video about the lives of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello produced with the cooperation of the Abbott and Costello families and "The Flowers of Holy Face Monastery" done for his friend Fr. Hilary Conti.
Larry was a caring and gentle soul whose concern for others caused him to seek out groups that tried to improve the lives of children and young adults, such as Project Children, where he served on the Committee of the Clifton Chapter and the Old Timers Athletic Association of Greater Paterson.
His love of music began at an early age when he started what became an "extensive" record collection. He lent his vocal skills to participating in several church choirs as well as the North Jersey Chorus, where he was a baritone.
He also did public relations work for several organizations and served as a church lector. He was an avid amateur meteorologist as well.
Larry's sense of humor and good nature endeared him to many family and friends.
He leaves behind his devoted sister, Marie E. Harrington of Clifton; his aunt Anna Harrington of Pompton Plains; his uncle Leo Harrington of Clarks Summit, PA; and his aunt Jeannette Sprick of Succasunna.
He has three Godsons: Dennis Sprick of Garfield, Michael Sprick of Newton and Dr. Christopher Farrell of Philadelphia. Larry's numerous cousins include Ann Marie Grady of West Milford, Fr. Brice Leavins, OFM of Providence, RI and Eileen Salloum of Jackson, NJ.
On his mother's side, his cousins include Margaret Sprick of Succasunna, Tomm Sprick of New Milford, CT, Frederick Steele of Newnan, GA and Robert Sprick , Esq. of Windermere, FL.
There are also many cousins from the Whitty family of Vernon, NJ. Special extended family cousins are Elise Klewin Miller of Fairfield, NJ and Gregory Klewin of Paramus.
Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Clifton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:15 am from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton and 10:00 am at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Clifton Ave. @ Randolph Ave., Clifton. Larry has been a great friend for many years. A devout Catholic, he was inspiring always, with never a negative word.

Equally conversant in science, politics and sports, we discussed and rooted for Notre Dame's football team often.

His work in media including broadcasting and video production attests to his sharp mind, wit and talents.

Larry will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, my friend.
