Barbara Martone Obituary

MARTONE
Barbara, passed away on Sunday January 8, 2017. She was born in Garfield, NJ. Born to William and Anna Petronchak. Devoted wife to Daniel L. Martone. Loving mother to Daniel and Donald Martone. Loving sister to Helen Bishop, Mary Lysovsky, Joseph and Steve Petronchak. Special mother-in-law to Andrea Matone.
A resident of Wayne, NJ for 44 years. In her early years, she attended Garfield High School. During those years, she met her husband Dan at Grinkers in Passaic, where he worked as a soda jerk. She joked that she got to eat all of Dan's ice cream mistakes. Barbara got engaged to Dan before he left for the Army in 1957. They married two years later in 1959. She worked for many years at Easter Seal fund raising for the disadvantaged. But the job Barbara loved the most was being a stay at home mother to her two sons. She looked after their education and made sure they graduated college. She loved spending summers in Cape May Beach at her family's shore house. Every trip she had to stop at the Lobster House for a lobster dinner. Barbara loved to gamble and always had to stop in Atlantic City. Above all else she loved her grandchildren Daniel and Gabrielle who she lovingly refers to as her "Pidgies". She also loved her granddog Stimmy. She never missed an opportunity to pull out her brag book from her purse to show the photos to everyone she met. Barbara loved crossword puzzles, cards, dancing, and Elks Club dinners. We will so miss you Grandma B. You were one of a kind.
Visiting Friday 3-5 & 7-9 PM at Marrocco Memorial Chapel 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton. Interment Committal Saturday 10 AM at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Good Days Foundation 6900 n Dallas Parkway Suite 200, Plano, Texas 75024 in her memory would be appreciated.

Knowing more certainly as each year passes that the things we shared in our lives together on earth are mysteriously spiritual and thus eternal. That realization brings me a share in the peace and joy of your everlasting wanderings with Dan and all those you are now reunited with forever. Fly on, dear Barbara, soar and smile, because that brings happiness to all who miss you deeply. Dennis Crowley

Barbara and Dan, your star still shines to remind us that even in our deaths we live on in the infinite freedom of everlasting love that is our eternal core. Loving you still, Dennis

Barbara, As the years roll by, missing you does become easier. Perhaps that is because holding you and your memory in my heart has set up a new and mysterious relationship of recognizing our soul to soul connection. You blessed me and my family in many ways and continue to do so on a spiritual basis. Miss you and Dan lots and call you up to my memory whenever I think of all your kindnesses.

Anniversaries of the passing of the ones we hold so many dear memories of are always bitter/sweet. I can still hear Barb's laughter, often a real guffaw about something truly funny. That's probably the strongest of my memories of Barb and Dan, their laughter and ability to find joy and fun in life. Always missed but forever in my heart and mind. With prayers and much love, Dennis Crowley

Barbara thank you for all you did behind the scenes for so many people. If you ever wanted to hear the truth about anything bothering you, Barbara was the go-to person. Her answers were most often not the easiest, but they always proved to be the best answers. I guess the truth is like that. Your wonderful laughter and no-nonsense caring will live on in my heart for all the years to come. Fr. Dennis Crowley
