Louis Siegel Obituary

SIEGEL
Louis, a resident of Fort Lee, NJ since 2004, and a previous resident of Englewood Cliffs, NJ for 44 years, died on June 16, 2014 at age 94.
He was a devoted son, brother and father figure to his extended family. A consummate gentleman and dapper to the end, Mr. Siegel is survived by many cousins who adored him.
Mr. Siegel was born in New Bedford, MA in 1920 and moved with his parents and two sisters to New York City in 1923.
He was educated at Stuyvesant High School and New York University. He retired from the United States Air Force after 39 years of service as Lieutenant Colonel.
His military service began with the US Army Infantry in early 1942 and transferred to the Army Air Corps for pilot training. As a member of the 15th Air Force based in Italy, he completed 51 combat missions flying B-24H Liberators Patricia Ann and Boobie Trap. He joined the US Army Air Corps active reserves and was recalled for extended duty in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Siegel was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 10 Air Medals, a Purple Heart and numerous other medals and citations.
Mr. Siegel also had a distinguished corporate career and retired from ITT Electronic Systems in 1988.
Mr. Siegel was a member of the Aviators Post of the American Legion and several military support organizations including the Air Force Reserve Officers Association and the Military Officers Association of America. He was an honorary congregant of the Jewish Chapel at the US Military Academy, West Point, and Commanders Council.
Funeral Services will be held graveside on Thursday, June 19th at 1 PM at the Beth-El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
