64 is too young. However Richard remains one of the smartest people I have ever met. He was someone I was proud to be friends with.

Closing on 40 years now with NBC Television, I have had the the opportunity see many other Engineers reach for the brass ring and, overall, it has made it ever clearer what a unique and brilliant man Richard Koziol was. How he could be as kind hearted and supportive as he was while maintaining a towering ability still leaves me awestruck. He will always be missed.

I worked with Richard when I was Chief Engineer at Cinema Sound Studios in New York back in the 70's and I believe he's without doubt the smartest man I have ever met. The last time I was at your house Pat, was nearly 30 years ago in tow with Al D'Alessio, but I remember it well and fondly. The world has lost a great man.

Dear Pat, Emily and Andrew,

I have always referred to Richard as the "smartest man in the world." I truly believe that...but you knew that too. He was a true Renaissance man. He knew everything about everything. I found him to be so interesting and charming and funny and I share in your loss. Whenever there was something I didn't know or had just learned, I would always say, "I'll bet Richard knows" - and he always did!!!

I'll miss him always and pray for all of you in the coming days.

I have fond memories of Rich and his radio from our four years at Bosco. I always told him that I was jealous he could go home every day, while I had to stay as a resident student.

It is clear that Rich was a great success in all the ways that are important, especially with his family. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Rich came to WRFM in the latter part of my 17 year stint there. He always impressed me as someone who knew a lot more than he let on. He always seemed to have a half-smile on his face, as if he was happy to be around you. And, of course, his wit. I'll never forget the sign he posted on the door to the engineering office. "Trespassers Will Be Violated". I can still see his roundish face and that sly smile. That is the image I will treasure.

Dearest Pat and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with you at this time. Remember the good times, they help to heal the sorrow.

I am stunned by word of Koz's passing. God must've needed him to fix something! Lord knows, he was always ready, willing and able to help. What a joy to work with (at WRFM) and to call him a friend. Pat, the grief of his passing is shared by all of us who knew him but I am sure that yours is overwhelming. No one can take that pain away but yours also is the joy of having been his life's partner and the mother of his children. God give you comfort in the Knowledge that Richard will be with you always, even now as you adjust to a new way of living in his presence on another plane. All my love, Beverly (Poppell)

To the Family:

As a fellow member of the Don Bosco class of 1964, although I lost touch with Richard, I can see that his life and works embodied the values of service to others which were inculcated into us at Don Bosco. We are all better off as a result of his contribution to our lives. May God bless him and you in his Family.
