MAHER John E., age 76, of Ramsey, NJ, died on Friday, November 20, 2009 at home after a short illness. John, also called Jack by his family and many friends, was born on December 16, 1932 in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan to Edward Maher of Tipperary, Ireland and Mary Ellen O' Gorman Maher of Tipperary. Jack graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1950. He joined the US Army in July 1952, served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in April 1954. He attended Manhattan College at night under the GI Bill, graduating in 1964. He worked in accounting and finance for IBM Corporation from 1954 until his retirement in December 1988. Jack was a proud member of the Tipperary Association, the Thomas Davis Irish Players, the Irish Arts Forum of Rockland County and the Bergen County Players of Oradell, NJ. In 2007 he was nominated by the New Jersey Association of Community Theater for Outstanding Production of a Musical. He was an accomplished woodcarver and an avid reader. He enjoyed movies, especially film noir and loved to travel. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Maureen Maher Kitson, his brother, Edward Maher, his first wife, Pat Moffett, and his son, Johnny (USMC). Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Judith Keenan Maher, his daughter, Susan Maher Greco and her husband, Michael and his two granddaughters, Taylor and Bryce Greco. Also surviving him are his niece, Diane Kitson Ranaghan and her husband, Brian, his nephew, Joseph and his wife, Maureen and his three grand nephews, Kevin, Danny and John Ranaghan. It is always sad to hear of the passing of a Manhattan College alumnus.
It becomes even sadder when you realize that John Maher graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. We walked the halls of the same high school and college. May John rest in peace. May all the deceased alumni of Hayes and Manhattan rest in peace.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
