MURPHY Joseph Aloysius Jr. A longtime resident of Staten Island died May 3, 2010 in Paramus, New Jersey. He was eighty-Eight years old.Mr. Murphy was born on October 1, 1921 on Staten Island. He graduated from St. Peter's Grammar School & High School, Manhattan College, and St John's Law School. He served as a Marine Corps. Fighter Pilot, Flying Corsairs, in the Pacific in WW II, and again in the Korean War: rising to the rank of Colonel in the Reserves. Mr. Murphy was a detective in the New York City Police Department for approximately 15 years, serving for a time in the laboratory. He left the police dept. to become a pilot with Pan American World Airways, rising to become a Boeing 747 Captain.Mr. Murphy was a dedicated, industrious man who was supported and loved by his wife of 64 years. Mary Margret Murphy (nee Mulry), who predeceased him by three and ½ months. They had relocated to Closter, New Jersey in 1960. They were also parishioners of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Closter.Surviving are son, Gerald, a daughter, Kathleen Mardula and son in law Mark, a sister, Irene, and three grandchildren.Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4 PM at Moritz Funeral Home, Closter. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's R.C. Church on Wednesday at 11 A.M. to be followed by internment with his wife and parents at St. Peter's cemetery on Staten Island, NY.
