Vincent McTighe Obituary

McTIGHE
Vincent P., Sr. was born in Paterson, NJ on October 29, 1918, the youngest of seven children to Magdalena and Michael McTighe. He was always proud of his home town and loved to meet others from Paterson. He often commented that Lou Costello, of Abbot and Costello fame, was also from Paterson and was a boyhood friend with Vincent's relatives.
Vincent, called "Mac" by his friends, had a life-long love of Big Band music, often going to the Paramount theater in New York to see Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James and other bands that played there live each week.
Mac eventually met and married Anita Carter in 1943. Soon Mac was in the Navy and off to the Pacific where he served until the war ended. Later Vincent and Anita settled in Clifton, NJ where they brought up their three children. The family was very active in St. Brendan's Catholic Church and School.
Vincent was the owner/operator of Advance Auto Driving school with Anita as the receptionist/secretary. Vincent also worked for the Passaic Valley Water Commission.
In 1985 Vincent and Anita retired to Crestwood Village in Whiting, NJ and became active members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, including serving as Eucharistic Ministers, assisting at Sunday Mass and also bringing Communion to the home bound. Locally Vince was active in various organizations including the Irish American Club, the Crestwood Village 6 Residents' Club and, most especially, the VFW Whiting Memorial Post 8745 where he currently served as Judge Advocate.
Vincent passed away Wednesday, October 17th just short of his 94th birthday.
He is predeceased by his wife Anita and his daughter Joan. He is survived by his son, Rev. Vincent P. McTighe, Jr, his daughter Brenda and her husband Kenneth Ward, step-grandchildren Alexandra and James Ward, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Viewing will be from 2-5 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at "The Family Owned" Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals 66 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ 08759. A Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:45 AM Monday October 22, 2012 in the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church 30 Schoolhouse Rd. Whiting. Burial will follow in the Brig. Gen. WC Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ
