Helen Tarryk

Helen Tarryk April 11, 1919 - March 10, 2013 NORWICH - Helen Tarryk, 93, reposed peacefully in the Lord on Sunday March 10, 2013. She was born in Manhattan, NY on April 11, 1919 to the late Dimitry and Emilia (Sczyk) Pisarko. She graduated from NFA in 1937 and continued with business school. On November 20, 1938 she was married to George H. Tarryk Sr. at St. Nicholas Church in Norwich. Her husband and love of her life predeceased her on February 13, 1988. Helen was a wonderful Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Wife, Sister, Sister-in-law and Friend to all. She was" a friendly ray of sunshine", to quote from her high school year book. Helen was very active in her church, her community and raising her family all while working as owner/operator of Old Homestead Poultry Farm. She and her husband retired from farming in 1978. Her activities were many; 7th degree Grange member, including being treasurer of Norwich Grange for over 25 years, Retired Senior Volunteer , Rose City Senior Center, 4-H leader, New London County Extension Service, Farm Bureau, Heifer Project International and Church Woman United to name a few. Her Orthodox faith was very important to her as a member of St. Nicholas and Holy New Martyrs and Confessors Churches in Norwich. Helen had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of both church choirs. Her greatest achievement however, was the legacy of love and caring for her family. She is survived by her sons; Dr. and Mrs. George (Barbara) Tarryk of Seal Beach, CA, Richard (Camilla) Tarryk of Norwich, daughters; Shirlee (John) Holmes of Scotland, Mary (Steven) Tague of Norwich, one sister; Anne Mahalawich of Norwich, 10 grandchildren; Lisa, Christopher, Judy, Laura, Lynda, Laura, Jacqueline, John, Alexander, and Nicholas, 11 great-grandchildren; Victoria, Alexandra, Megan, Brandon, Christos, Ashley, Ryan, Matthias, Kyle, Cooper and Aislynn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by a great grandchild Andrew Lillis and her brother-in-law; Dr. Nicholas Mahalawich. Calling Hours will be held Friday evening from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. with Panikhida Services at 7 P.M. at Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia Church, 364 Canterbury Tnpk., Norwich, CT. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10 A.M. at the church with interment immediately following at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cemetery, 94 Salem Tnpk., Norwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy New Martyrs Church Norwich. May her Memory be Eternal.
