Born Eva Henrietta Isadora Jacobsohn on June 26, 1921 to Dr. Moritz and Charlotte Jacobsohn. She was delivered at home by her father in Marienfelde, a suburb of Berlin, Germany. I am saddened to read of the passing of this very strong woman. About 15 years ago, Eva Loew came to the Virginia Holocaust Museum with other former Gross Bresseners, and we drove to Hydefarmlands. There we picnicked and remenisced. The neighbor, Richard Hamlin, whose mother invited the Hydefarmlanders for holiday meals, became so much interested in Judaism that he made several trips to Israel and contributed generously to the annual Jewish Welfare Fund until his death at 90 on Nov. 8, 2019.

Eva was a person that always had her arms and heart open to anyone in her path. While in High School, she offered me the opportunity to work on the farm during the summer months and after school. There were many life experiences learned there. That working hard and taking care of others would reap many rewards throughout your life. She was a teacher and a mentor for me at a young age, and of course working with Jackie and Jessica also made that an added benefit. She made our day to day lives on the farm a great place to be. After finishing 4 years in the Air Force, she offered me full-time employment back on the farm, and I did not hesitate at the opportunity. She never stopped giving of herself. To Jackie, Jessica, Margaret, Karen, and Howard, my sympathy to you all in the loss of such a wonderful Mother and friend to all. All the memories shared on that farm will forever be in all our hearts to enjoy. She touched all of us in a very special way.

Dear Cousins,
I spent three summers on the farm as a guest in the early 1960s and was treated like a member of your family. It was fun for a city boy and a great learning experience.
One of the skills of your mother that I observed but haven't seen mentioned yet was her hunting prowess. On many warm summer evenings after the late milking and other numerous chores had been completed, after the cows had been put to bed and the family fed, your mother would pick up her rifle and walk down the lane in search of an elusive woodchuck. Invariably this was followed by a bang echoing up from one of the fields and the later report by your mother that there was one less woodchuck available to damage the fields. I think she enjoyed her short period of solitude and the challenge of the hunt.
Certainly she will be with you forever in your thoughts and her spirit and values will live on in all her descendants. We will all miss her.
Love, Ralphie (which is how she called me)

To all Eva's children and grandchildren, I send my most profound sympathy. Eva was the beloved cousin of my father, Heinz Waller. Her love of the land runs through my family. Now I see that she was so much more than that. With love...

Karen,
After reading of your mother's life, it is obvious that she was a woman of great strength and accomplishments. This strength is evident within all of the beautiful Gambolati women. Let this strength carry you and guide you through this difficult time and throughout the future to come. She is within you.

Eva was the best example I have known of the proverb: "Grow where You're planted - and then bloom fiercely!" What a wonderful woman!
May you be comforted by your good memories of her.

To all the Loews, especially Jessica:
I have such wonderful memories of your mom going back many years to days when I first met you all through days at 4-H camp. I remember yummy chicken and rice for camp staff, outings and hayrides to the farm, Memorial Day picnics, but most of all I remember your mom's will and determination. I think she passed that good quality on to all of you. My sympathies for your loss.
