Elnora Joan Pearman Garner

1929 - 2008

MULLEN - Elnora Joan Pearman Garner, 79, of Mullen died Sept. 3, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney.

Joan was born July 29, 1929, at Alliance to William Clarence "Prunes" and Lena L. Pearman.

She graduated from Mullen High School in 1949. On May 31, 1949, she was united in marriage to Glen V. Garner at Valentine. Unto this union two children were born, a daughter Billie Joan and a son Verle Eugene. They lived in and around Mullen most of their lives.

She worked at Bud's Café and the Pioneer Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aid. For a period of time she worked at Lee's Meat Market. For several years she and Glen operated the Hondo Lanes Bowling Alley.

Joan was well known for her sewing of Western shirts. Not only did she make them for her family, she also made them for friends. She liked to bowl, and play cards. Especially 5-point pitch and if she ever teamed up with one of her sisters you didn't want to play against them. They were almost a cinch to win. Football was another fun thing for her, especially when Nebraska and Colorado were playing. Then she would call Colorado fans and rub it in. She belonged to two card clubs and enjoyed an occasional trip to the Rosebud Casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lena Pearman; her sister, Eunice Wolfenden; brothers Woodrow Wilson (Bink) Pearman, Cloyd Alexander (Eck) Pearman and Elmer James (Neak) Pearman; brother-in-law Warren Wolfenden; and sister-in-law, Thelma Pearman.

Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years; her daughter; and son. Also, her sisters, Pauline Brecken and Kathleen Boyer; sisters-in-law, Thelma Pearman, Helen McCready; and lots of nieces and nephew.

Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in Mullen at Cedarview Cemetery. Words of comfort and reflection of Joan's life will be given by A.B. Cox.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. MDT Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Mullen Funeral Home.
