Albert Milander Obituary
He was born June 23, 1923 in Allentown, PA and was the son of Albert and Helen Witmer Milander.
He served in the Air Force during W.W.II and the Korean War. He retired after 32 years as a supervisor for Eastern Airlines. After retiring he worked at the I.G.A. in Timberville, was a substitute teacher, and was a former chaplain at Bowman Apple. He was a lifetime member of the Chimney Rock VFW post #9660, the New Market American Legion, and the Timberville Lions Club. He was also a member of the Sunset Drive United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, told the children's story, and was known to most as "Uncle Al."
On April 14, 1982 he married the former JoAnn Neff, whom survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Myles Milander and wife Mary Lou of Islamorada, FL, Mark Milander of Opa Locka, FL, a daughter; Roberta Reed and husband Jon of Melbourne, FL, two grandchildren; Melanie Link and husband Mark, Travis Reed, step-children; Marijo Wood of Broadway, Phoebe Conway and husband Mike of St. Mary's, GA, William Wood Jr. and companion Lisa, of Broadway, step grandchildren; Ashley Wood and companion Brandon Showman of Harrisonburg, step-great-grandchildren; Hayden Wood and Hannah Showman, sister-in-law; Vernetta Milander of Whitehall, PA, a special caregiver; Patsy Comer, a number of nieces and nephews, and many beloved cats and a dog who will miss him.
He was preceded in death by a brother; Russell Milander.
The Rev's. Jim Mahaffey and David Burrough will conduct a memorial service 11 A.M. Saturday at the Sunset Drive U.M.C. in Broadway.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
His body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonburg SPCA, 2238 Old Furnace Road Harrisonburg, VA 22801, or the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter, 268 Landfill Rd. Edinburg, VA 22824.
