Bruce Gribben Campbell, a veteran of the Virginia Army National Guard and the United States Army, son of Andrew Martin of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Doreen Martin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, ended his life at age 38, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.

The army was Bruce's life; on drill weekends he was in his zone, he was at home, comfortable and at peace alongside his fellow soldiers. Few people knew that Bruce ached from depression which was intensified by his deployment to Iraq in 2008. When Bruce came home from Iraq he began suffering from PTSD, however Bruce was afraid to ask for help for fear he would be asked to resign or released from the military. PTSD is a serious disorder that many are not aware of the consequences if left untreated.

He leaves behind a wife Jessica Poe Campbell; a 15 year old son Peyton Poe; a ten year old daughter Kelsi Campbell; and a five year old son Andres James Campbell "A.J.".

Bruce will be remembered as a fun loving, energetic, hardworking, loyal man who would have given anything for his family, friends, and country; a hero who suffered in silence.

A funeral service will be held at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal, Virginia, at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

In place of flowers please make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Program to raise awareness and reach out to other veterans.

The address for donations is: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.
