Joan Fitzwater Obituary
Joan Harris Sperry Fitzwater, 75, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Thursday, September 2, 2010, in her home.
Mrs. Fitzwater was born in 1934 in Middletown, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Harris Sperry and Pearl Elizabeth Sperry Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Reliance United Methodist Church in Reliance, Virginia.
Her husband Courtney Lee Fitzwater, Sr. whom she married on June 12, 1952, preceded her in death on August 13, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Beightol of Richmond, Virginia, Vicky Jeffcoat and husband, Dave of Winchester; two sons, Courtney Lee Fitzwater, Jr. of Middletown, Gregory Fitzwater, Sr. of Winchester; four grandchildren, Dylan Lee Beightol, Justin Patterson, Gregory Fitzwater, Jr. and Bryan Fitzwater; sisters, Sally Rutherford of Clary, Virginia, Linda Funk of Reliance; and brothers, Jack Sperry of Mount Jackson, Charles Sperry of Front Royal, Jerry Thomas of Reliance, and John Thomas of Middletown.
Her step-father, A. C. Thomas; two sisters, Constance Fitzwater, Janet Knave and one brother, Dennis Thomas preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Glen Welsh officiating. Entombment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Fitzwater, Dylan Beightol, Donald Funk, Boyd Beeler, Ed Stone and Danny Kline.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mitch Thomas and Dean Thomas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
