Gwendolyn Locht Obituary
Gwen was preceded in death by her father, Amon Andrews, and brothers, Neil Andrews and James Andrews.
She was a 1982 graduate of Choctawhatchee High School and a member of the Indianettes. Gwen received her Bachelor's of Nursing from the University of South Alabama and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.
After 5 years of courtship, Gwen married David Locht on Oct. 8, 1988. Gwen worked at the local hospital in Fort Walton Beach before joining the United States Air Force family as a Second Lieutenant. Her first assignment was at Eglin AFB and she was deployed to Operation Desert Storm.
Her next assignment took her to Maxwell AFB, Ala. Gwen took a two-year break from active duty service and become a USAF Reservist in Florida where she had her wonderful son, David Locht Jr. After returning to Active Duty, Gwen was assigned to Patrick AFB, Fla. Her next assignment then sent the family to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska where her beautiful daughter, Danielle, was born. Then it was back to Florida to Hurlburt Field and to Eglin AFB where she was deployed to Afghanistan.
Gwen spent the last few months battling Leukemia which was diagnosed during her deployment in Afghanistan. Her husband of 22 years would like to thank all of the family and friends who helped us battle this disease by taking time to donate blood and all of the loving prayers.
Gwen always loved the beach. The smell of the salty water, the wind in her face and the gentle roar of the waves all combined to create a sense of peace and calm.
Gwen is survived by her brother, Jerald 'Jerry' Andrews, and his wife, Joan; niece Christy Andrews; sister-in-law, Gloria; niece, Andrea Andrews; brothers-in-law: John Locht; Mike and wife, Martina Locht, daughters, Natasha and Sabrina; Kevin and wife, Sherry Locht, son, Huston and daughter, Madison.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547, 850-864-3361. Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with LtCol Locht while I was stationed at Patrick. i am sorry for your loss and am keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

I am truly shocked. I was deployed with Lt Col Locht in Kandahar. I just read about her passing in the Navy Times. I only knew her for such a very short time but was impressed by her wonderful personality. Such a loss for the family, the Nursing Corps, and the Air Force.

Lt Col Locht was a wonderful woman and nurse. I had the pleasure of working w/her when I was a SrA at Patrick AFB's clinic in 1996-98. I'm so sorry for your loss.

GOD SAW SHE WAS GETTING TIRED AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE. SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND HER AND WHISPERED "COME TO ME". IN TEARS WE WATCHED HER SUFFER, AND SAW HER FADE AWAY. ALTHOUGH WE LOVED HER DEARLY, WE COULD NOT MAKE HER STAY. A HEART OF GOLD STOPPED BEATING, HARD WORKING HANDS NOW REST. GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US, HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST.

We spent many nights and weekends together at ECG, watching Gwen and her loving smile as she watched Danielle in the gym. I would run into Gwen at Hurlburt, Eglin or LJPS over the past few years and she would always be smiling. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I was saddened to learn of Gwen losing her battle with cancer. I met Gwen when we were 12 years old, and we graduated together in 1982. She was always, cheerful, smiling and a friend to everyone she met. The last time I saw her was at our High School reunion, in 2002. My boys played with David Jr. in the swimming pool at the Hotel. I reconnected with her on FB last year and learned we had both given birth to daughters, since we had spoken last. I know she loved her family and her career, and she achieved so much in a short period of time. Gwen will be missed greatly by anyone who was lucky enough to get the chance to meet her. Take care.

It was an honor to know Gwen. She was a one-of-a-kind lady. The love and devotion she had for her dear family was inspiring. I remember Gwen, camera in hand, snapping away as Danielle and Rylee surfed the waves, and when Payton and David Jr. danced at Cotillion. She loved her children with everything she had. Gwen was my aunt. I haven't seen here in a long time but when I did she always had a friendly face for me. I wish I had more time with her. I remember when I was a child she would fix my hair like hers, she was always sweet. I love my Aunt Gwen she will always be remembered and in my prayers.

Gwen was a dearly loved Choctaw Indian classmate. I will always remember her love and friendship to me, when I was new to CHS. We had just reconnected in the past year through FB.
