John Nelson Obituary

McHENERY – John P. Nelson, 57, of McHenry, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at his home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Chicago, to Charles and Dorothea (Hannon) Nelson. On July 11, 1975, he married Janet Engstrom at Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry.

He was married for 36 years. He was a lifelong Journeyman Carpenter involved with major projects with the Deep tunnel, high rises and bridges, and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed the outdoors, helping others, and mostly spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Janet of McHenry; three children, Jason (Cyndi) Nelson of Johnsburg, Joshua Nelson of Woodstock and Heather (Justin) Evenson of Johnsburg; his grandchildren, Dannielle, Karley, Jack and Hannah Nelson; his mother, Marion (Robert) Graff; his siblings, Mary Lou (John) Kitchner of Glen Burnie, Md., Sue LaVarre of Crystal Lake, Chris (Karen) Kennebeck of Bartlett, Sue Kennebeck of Ringwood, Paul Nusbaum of Wonder Lake, Cindy Kennebeck of Monroe, Wis., and Dave Kennebeck of McHenry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothea Nelson; a brother, Mike Kennebeck; and a sister, Leanne Nusbaum.

The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. The visitation will continue from 10:30 a.m. until the Mass of the Resurrection is celebrated at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond, McHenry. Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
