Helen Polich Obituary

CARY – Helen R. Polich, 97, of Cary and formerly of Canton, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at her home.

She was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Norris, to James and Anna (McMullen) Rogers.

She lived in Canton until 2001 and then moved to her daughter's home in Cary. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton and the Altar and Rosary Society and a volunteer for 4-H, Meals on Wheels, Center for the Mentally Disabled, YMCA and Heartland Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Graham Hospital's Registered Nursing School in 1938. She worked as a surgical and obstetrics nurse until she retired. She was a member of the Psychology Club and Nurses Alumni Association. She was a member of the Cary Catholic Faith community. She was a regular contributor to "Letters To The Editor" in the Northwest Herald, often writing "opinions from a 97-year-old granny." She was an optimist who lived with grace and inspired others to do the same.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (McMillan) Constant; and two granddaughters, Erin (Bob) Cross and Kate (Peter) Larson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Louis F. Polich, who passed away in 1981; five sisters, Mart, Floss, Maudie, Ann and her twin sister, Hazel; and two brothers, John "Jack" and James "Bud".

The memorial visitation will be from 4 p.m. Thursday, May 12, until the memorial service at 6 p.m. at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Road, Cary.
