Norbert A. Adams

McHENRY – Norbert A. Adams, 72, of McHenry, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at his home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Johnsburg to Alex and Loretta (Diedrich) Adams. On Oct. 3, 1964, he married June M. Radloff at St. Patrick's Church in McHenry.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served from 1958 to 1961 at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Norb was a lifetime resident of McHenry. He began work in the construction field as a carpenter for local contractors. He then owned and operated Norb Adams Builders for several years. Later, he was employed as a planner/estimator for the Department of Defense for 12 years, working primarily at Fort Sheridan and later transferring to Fort McCoy and Great Lakes Naval Base, until retiring at age 62.
His greatest priority in life was always his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, always putting their needs before his own. He was especially fond of caring for his grandchildren. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed golfing, gardening, tending to his yard and flowerbeds, and playing cards, especially euchre. He loved woodworking and cooking, and was a racing enthusiast, both snowmobiles and drag racing.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, June; two children, Dawn Marie Adams and Jeffrey Adams, both of McHenry; two grandchildren, Nicholas Westendorf of McHenry and Alexia Frey of Fox Lake; and a brother, Thomas Adams of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Immediate family and close friends will gather from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 15, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. Those wishing to join the family for the 10 a.m. funeral Mass on Monday, April 16, at St. Patrick's Church, 3500 W. Washington St., McHenry, should meet at the church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, McHenry.
