Mary Madden Obituary

JOLIET – Mary C. Madden, 99, a longtime resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully Friday, May 6, 2011, at the home of her niece in Spring Grove, with her family by her side.

She was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Joliet. She retired from Joliet Public Schools after 38 years of teaching, from 1935-73. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick Council of Catholic Women, the Young at Heart Club of St. Patrick, and the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her nieces, Mary (Dennis) Decman and Ellen (Peter) DeSpain; her nephews, Thomas (Jean) McBurney, Bernard (Marian) McBurney, Patrick Madden, Thomas (Lynne) Madden and Robert (Claudia) Madden; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Harriet (Dwyer) Madden; two brothers, Reverend Robert J. Madden and Jack (Frances, deceased) Madden; a sister, Elizabeth (Bernard, deceased) McBurney; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Kammerer.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Road, Joliet. The funeral will be at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at noon. Internment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials in her name to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Johnsburg, IL, would be appreciated.
