Edward Benus Obituary

Edward Joseph Benus Portage/Whiting/Portage Edward Joseph Benus, age 76, of Portage, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso Campus. Edward was born July 18, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois and was a Whiting resident for 32 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Whiting High School and then graduated from Purdue University in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Economics. Ed was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War and retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1994. He had been a Portage resident since 1962 and a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church. Mr. Benus was also a member of the Portage Moose Lodge #1900 and the Portage American Legion Post #260 for 52 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Anna and Joseph Benus. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Donna Lee Benus; three children: Tom (Shena) Benus, Matthew Benus (fiance' Evelyn Bottando), Diane Benus; and two grandchildren: Stelian and Andrey Benus. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. James Wozniak and Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating the Mass. There will be visitation at the church from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Memorials are preferred to Nativity Church. There will be an American Legion service Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. by Deacon Robert Bonta at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, 219-762-3013.
