Gerald Grecco Obituary

GERALD "JERRY" J. GRECCO CROWN POINT, IN Gerald "Jerry" J. Grecco, age 64 of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Anthony Medical Center. Jerry is survived by his wife, Margaret "Margie"; three children: Jennifer (Patrick) Ritter, Jill (fiancé, Scott Peters) and Angelo (Emily) Grecco; one granddaughter, Megan Ritter; two sisters: Alena Fattore and Carole Grecco; three sisters-in- law: Theresa Dougherty, Ann Kettles and Madge Kollar; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Angelo A. and Helen A. Grecco; and sister, Mary Lynn Casale. Jerry graduated from Andrean High School in 1964, where he was a High School All-American Football Player. He went on to graduate from Indiana University, where he was a member of the 1968 Rose Bowl team and Co-Captain of the 1969 team. He enjoyed a successful career at Allied Insurance Agency, Allied Merchant Services and Financial Transaction Services. Jerry "The BEAR" lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute of it. He has affected so many lives in a positive way with his love and spirit. He was lucky to have many best friends and special relationships throughout his life. He was a loving husband and father and he made it a point to be a great role model and father figure for many many people. Jerry's life is not defined by his occupation but by his ability to connect with people and provide them with confidence to accomplish their goals in life. Whether in his role as a husband, father, father-in- law, grandfather, uncle, friend, father figure, role model, teammate, or coach....the BEAR gave his full heart and soul to everything he did and the world is a better place for having him in it. Jerry was particularly kind to me in high school and college. My brother Don is grateful to have reunited with Jerry at the IU Rose Bowl reunion a few years ago. The many good years you had together, Margie, is hopefully your comfort, as I'm sure you were to him. Will be thinking of you and your family warmly.

From one St. Mary's/Andrean family to another, Bear was an amazing man and he will be truly missed. I'll never forget hearing my uncles talk about his playing days, or the rib dinner he and his fellow AHS alumni made for us after the Penn scrimmage in 2004. Your family will be in our prayers, Mrs. Grecco.

My deepest condolences to the Grecco family. Jerry was a good guy who would "take one for the team" even at his own expense.

Margie and Family,

Jerry has always had a special place in my heart. He stood up for my wedding and was in my dorm at Indiana University. I don't know if you remember me, Margie, but we double dated at Indiana University, and I was at your wedding. I remember how Jerry always got me tickets to the Indiana University football games and Angelo had the recreation vehicle and had great tailgate parties. We lost touch when we moved out of the country, but our memories together are in my college scrapbook and in my heart forever. Our love of Jerry we share with you.

Gerry probably saved my life back in the 70's, when I asked him if he would insure a motorcycle for me. His reply: "Cordeau - if you get a motorcycle, I'll kick your butt". Thanks, GJ for being you! Miss your wit and charm......

We were saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. He has meant so much to our family since his days at IU. He was a great comfort to us during my father's illness and after his passing in 2008. Dear Margie and family, may Christ's blessing be upon you and yours! It is never easy to say good bye, but we all know we must. I will always remember fondly playing football at St. Mark's and Jerry teaching me how to block correctly. Great person and great inspiration to everyone in his life. Dearest Margie, Jennifer, Pat, Megan, Jill, Scott, Angelo, and Emily:

Words cannot describe the heartbreak of losing such an amazing man. Jerry was welcomed into heaven with the loving embrace of God and his spirit is free. He taught all of us so much about life, courage, and most of all how to fully love others with our whole heart and soul. He will be sorely missed, but we look forward to seeing him again one sweet day. We love you all so much.
