Henry Markowski Obituary

HENRY J. MARKOWSKI HAMMOND, IN Henry J. Markowski, age 84 of Hammond, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Margaret "Peggy" (nee Finan) Markowski; seven children: Janice Markowski, Richard (Donna) Markowski, Peggy Garren, Marian Markowski, Shirley Anderson, Wendy (Tim) Hensley and Christopher (Megan) Markowski; stepchildren: Deborah (Anthony) Sodo, Sandra (James) Hoeckelbert, Cynthia (Pat) Sawaska and Geraldine (Matt) Wolff; 25 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Andrew and Josephine Markowski; two sons: Henry J. "Rick", Jr. and William R. Markowski; stepson, John W. Sparr, Jr.; sister, Eleanore Pawlak; and two brothers: John and Edward Markowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 6526 Kentucky Ave., Hammond (Hessville), IN with Father Larry Kew celebrant. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville at a later date. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville), IN. there will also be a time of viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Henry was born and raised in Chicago, IL and had lived in the Calumet Area for over 50 years. He was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Church for 38 years. Henry was a proud union millwright and retired from LTV Steel. His passion was outdoor activities.
