Sanford Colbert Obituary

DEACON SANFORD LEE COLBERT, JR. MERRILLVILLE, IN FORMERLY OF GARY, IN
Deacon Sanford Lee Colbert, Jr., age 81, of Merrillville, formerly of Gary, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He is survived by his wife, Idalia Berry Colbert of Merrillville; two sons: Sanford A. (Crystal) Colbert, Sr. of Dyer and Ivan M. (Dawn) Colbert of Dumfries, VA; one daughter, Rev. Gloria Lagail (Rev. Ricardo) Barksdale of Merrillville; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, John L. (LaVerne) Colbert of Gary; one sister, Dixie Hunter of Eufaula, AL; two brothers-in-law: Alphonso Berry and Albert Berry, Jr.; four sisters-in-law: Alberta Gray, Gloria (Bill) Robinson, Amy Parks, and Mary (Ronald) Hunter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 4756 Melville Ave., East Chicago with Rev. Rodney Golson, Sr., Pastor and Rev. Wayne Hudson officiating. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart. Visitation will be Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Friendship Baptist Church from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Deacon Colbert was retired from Inland Steel and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Hinton & Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
