LEONARD JOSEPH OLSZEWSKI FORMERLY OF GARY, IN

Leonard Joseph Olszewski, age 65 of Denver, CO, passed away on October 3, 2012. He was born in Gary, IN on November 6, 1946. Leonard attended Tolleston High School and graduated from Horace Mann, Class of 1965. He was a decorated veteran of the VietNam War and was with the 82nd Airborne Division. After discharge from the Army Leonard received a degree in Diesel and Gasoline Engines from Denver Automotive. He worked for Haliburton and traveled from Saudi Arabia to Prudhoe Bay, AK. Leonard loved music and played the clarinet, saxophone and harmonica. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maria and his five siblings. Gloria (Del) Creviston, Santee, CA; Arlene (Harold) Shrader, Chesterton, IN; Clifford (Claudia), Valparaiso, IN ; Gerald J. Olszewski, Marion, IN; Paul Ronald Olszewski, St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Helen Olszewski. Leonard had a wonderful smile and a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle and will be dearly missed. He wrote an original poem about the war and what he felt: "His wounds healed within a year, but sometimes the scars of war never heal."
