Edmund Verbeke Obituary

EDMUND VICTOR VERBEKE OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL Edmund Victor Verbeke, 80, of Olympia Fields, IL, was born into eternal life on December 4, 2014. Ed passed away after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in 1934, the youngest of six children to Arthur and Anna Verbeke in St. Louis, Missouri. Ed was a spiritual man, he entered the seminary but quickly discovered that God's calling for him was as a family man. Graduating from St. Louis University in 1956 the same year he met the love of his life, Anne; who he married in 1958. Duty called and Ed entered Officer's Candidate School rising to the rank of a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve. After his active duty Ed went on to a successful career at Ford Motor Company retiring as Controller of the Chicago Stamping Plant in 1991. Never one to shy from work, Ed accepted the position as Executive Director of Serra USA Council where he spent another 20 years in vocation work retiring in 2014. Ed most recently was interim Executive Director of Catholic Charities for Northwest Indiana. Ed was proud of his military service and multiple careers, but was most proud of the family over which he presided. Ed will be remembered as someone who gave more than he took, constantly looking out for other people. He is survived by his wife, Anne (nee Olin); his children: Thomas (Carrie), Timothy (Barbara), Anne (Mathew) McManus, John (Jil), Sarah (Paul) Machamer; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
