Hugh Brown Obituary

HUGH D. BROWN SOUTH BEND, IN
Hugh D. Brown, 83, of South Bend, IN passed away at home on Tuesday, August 25 at 1:00 a.m. Hugh was born in Logansport, IN on February 19, 1932 to Hugh W. and Dorothy B. (Shaw) Brown, both of whom preceded him in death. Hugh grew up in Gary, IN from 1934 to 1945 until his family moved to Hobart, IN. He graduated from Hobart high school in 1950, but always considered Gary as his home town. Hugh attended Ball State Teachers College from 1950 - 1952, favoring History and English. Hugh did military service in the U.S. Navy from 1952 - 1954 during the Korean War and was given an Honorable discharge upon completion of his tour. Hugh married the love of his life, Jane Grover, from Muncie, IN in 1955. Together they had four children: Deborah, Hugh, Jr., Gregory and Jill (deceased in January, 2005 and missed so very much); all smart, skilled, loyal and successful. Jane and Hugh were so very proud of them in all ways. The holidays were always special, especially when all could come together to visit. Hugh's other passions were golf, painting, but most of all, spending time with his wife until her passing in June, 2013. Hugh worked as an engineering technician from 1947 until retirement in 2001 with time out from 1950 - 1954 for college and military service. He loved his work. Surviving Hugh are his children: Deborah Pisowicz, Scottsdale, AZ; Hugh Jr. (Ann), Osceola, IN; Gregory (Lisa), Land-O-Lakes, FL; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Bless them all as they are precious. Hugh had no regrets as he had a good life. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel; 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation in the name and memory of Jane Brown; Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor; New York, NY 10001. Thinking of you again with this reminder of the date of your death. Now Keith has now joined you, Jane, Jill, Dad, Mom, Charlotte, Grandma, Grandpa in that life beyond this one. Makes me think you're all laughing together again and making room for more of us to join you with another family reunion - one that I take on faith will never end.

I had the honor of meeting Hugh while I cared for his beautiful wife Jane at Morningside. He was one of the most devoted husbands I have ever known. He was so attentive to Jane's needs and you could see the love he felt for her shine from his eyes whenever he saw her. I will never forget the day Hugh came into the building and handed me a bag. Inside was a painting he had painted and framed. He handed the painting to me and said "Jane wanted you to have this." It touched my heart and I will always cherish that gift. I was very saddened when I found out Hugh had passed away but with tears in my eyes I couldn't help but smile. My heart filled with joy because I know that Hugh and Jane are together again just as they should be!
