David Seils Obituary

DAVID O. SEILS DYER, IN
David O. Seils, age 86, late of Dyer, IN and formerly of the East Side went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Letitia A. Seils (nee Millis). Loving father of David S. (Susan) Seils, Suzy Seils, Cindy (Bob) Gross, Steve (Julie) Seils and Scott Seils. Devoted grandfather of Krysta, Eric, Taylor, Brooke (Zach) Brumm, Lauren, Alyssa (Fiancé Zach Breuckman), Shae and Shayla. Dearest brother of his late twin Dorothy (late William) Nicklaus. Korean War U. S. Marine Corps Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient. Dedicated member of St. John V.F.W. Post #717 (Services Sunday at 3:30 p.m.), Howlin Mad Detachment of the Marine Corps League and Toys for Tots Volunteer, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion, Schererville. Dave was a member of Village Church in Dyer, IN and a former Board Member of Cedine Ministries in Spring City, TN. During December 1950, early in the Korean War, Dave fought with Fox Company, Second Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment, in the epic battle that kept the North Korean Toktong Pass open. The narrow pass, leading out of the Chosin Reservoir, was the only route for ten thousand Marines and soldiers escaping encirclement by over one hundred thousand Communist Chinese. Three quarters of Fox Company were killed or wounded. Dave, although wounded and sustaining serious cold injuries, was one of the "Chosin Few" who made it out alive. He was later awarded the Purple Heart. The discipline and patriotism Dave learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest. Visitation Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 West 97th Lane (1/2 block west of U. S. 41 /Wicker Ave. at 97th Street) St. John, IN. Funeral services Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Don Rector, officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedine Ministries or V.F.W. On May 10, 2002 my father, a 30 year army veteran, passed away. In making arrangements, I was having a difficult time finding a military person to make a presentation of the flag for his funeral. Then Dave stepped in and made things happen. He not only got two representatives to present the flag, he got some veteran collegues of his to play taps and do a. 21 gun salute. It was awesome. I will never forget what Dave did for me and my family. He was a patriot in every sense of the word. He is a soldier in the worlds best army in the world, God's army. Well done good and faithful servant. God bless.
