GEORGE E. TSAKOPOULOS MUNSTER, IN
George E. Tsakopoulos, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 11, 2016. He was born March 22, 1935 in Nestani, Tripolis, Greece. He came to the United States 60 years ago seeking to create a better life for himself and his family. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and business owner in Northwest Indiana. He was a restauranteur for over 40 years owning the Indiana Restaurant, Woodmar Restaurant and the Embers Restaurant which later became the Olympic Flame in Schererville, Indiana. He was the patriarch of a large and beautiful family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Koula (nee Papagiannis), loving and proud father of Georgia (Steve) Karnezis, Mary Karabatak, Dina Tsakopoulos and Angie (Chuck) Weis. Adored and loving Papou to Gina, Peter, Kiki, Yiorgo, Gia ("Sunshine") and Chloe ("Diamandi"). Brother of Maria (John) Tsakopoulos, Christine (Gus) Kottaras. Brother in law to Irene (late Gus) Tsakopoulos. Preceded in death by his parents Evangelos and Georgia Tsakopoulos, loving brother Gus Tsakopoulos. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins koumbari and friends here in the United States, Canada and Greece. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Trisagion Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 7021 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, IN. Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. George was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, AHEPA Chapter #157 and the Pan Arcadian Federation. He will be remembered as a strong, kindhearted, honorable man with a great memory. He often recalled exact dates of events, birthdays and anniversaries of friends and families. He was very proud of all that he had accomplished in his life, but especially proud of the family he and his wife, Koula created. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
