FRANCIS BROWN Obituary

BROWN--Francis C., Jr. With heavy hearts the family of Francis C. Brown Jr. announce his passing on August 11th at the age of 78. By his side was his devoted wife, Nancy L. Brown, whom he loved with all his heart from the moment he laid eyes on her as a teenager. Married for 54 years, they raised four children - Caroline, Buck, James, and Jennie - and he was a constant presence in their lives and those of his nine grandchildren, as well as that of his sister, Margaret. We loved him for his wit, tenacity, entrepreneurial spirit, high standards, intellectual curiosity, and devotion to family. For the last 15 years, he handled the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease with grit and grace. Born in Washington, DC, he graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School, and practiced law in New York as a sole practitioner for most of his professional life. He served on the Board of Regents of Georgetown University, and the Boards of The Convent of the Sacred Heart and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Contributions may be made in his memory to any of the above institutions or a charity of your choice. Friends may call Friday 2-5 and 7-9 at Frank E. Campbell The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st St. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday August 16th, 10:30am at St. Joseph's Church, 404 East 87th St.

Dearest Nancy,

My mother called me last night to share the sad news. My husband, Kees, only met Frank once but was so impressed with his clarity and wisdom. So was I. We will never forget him. You are in our thoughts. I am sorry I will miss the memorial.

Love,
